Faces of the Forest

Up on the snow-covered hills of Scotsburn sits an outbuilding. Tucked away. Off grid. Far from the bustle of town, cars, and shops. It isn’t a large building—just big enough for a couple of couches, tables, and bookshelves. A perfect size for tiny wanderers and explorers who regularly fill the space. There’s an outhouse at the back. Big open-sky windows in the front. And a small wood stove in the centre room when days get chilly. Up the path is a hobby farm with goats, chickens, puppies—and Stormy the cat always lurking about.

Welcome to the modern-day one-room schoolhouse: Campbellcroft Outdoor School.

Tuesdays are art days. We gather around the stove, clear-eyed and imaginative. Practise our craft. Develop our style. Learn our tools. Hone our voice. We began with pencils and shading, then moved to colour theory and watercolours—paper weight, opacity, washes. Wet on wet. Wet on dry. We shaped mountains inspired by our view, then turned to ink: dip pens, blotting and all—finally pulling it together into one complete piece.

With great pride we present Winter: Faces of the Forest. Crafted on reused paper, painted with snow-boiled water, and inspired by the surrounding woods. Each work an impression—complete with a tiny creature in the snow—inviting viewers to wander, imagine, and get lost in forest magic.

The artists (age 5-13): Evangeline Hubbert Burrell, Geneva Henman, Gracie Fillier, Rylee Heighton, Poppy McCabe, Daphne McCabe, Mercy Shelley, Judah Shelley, Louisa Rankin, Sepporah Tigner.

This exhibition runs from January 19 – March 14, 2026 –  with an opening reception taking place on January 22 from 5:30pm-7:30pm.
