Pop Up Exhibitions for Culture Days

As part of the Artist Development Project, funded by the department of Community, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, Creative Pictou County is organizing a series of pop up exhibitions across Pictou County during Culture Days this fall.
Artists are invited to apply with a variety of visual mediums, from drawings/illustrations, paintings, sculptures, textiles, woodworking, glass and mixed media. 

There are six solo exhibition slots available, all chosen artists will receive a $475 honorarium for exhibiting their work as well as a further $100 for installation needs.
Pop Up exhibitions will take place across Pictou County in businesses that have regular hours, or in window fronts so that work can be viewed at all hours of the day. 

Chosen artists will be introduced to the venue where they will be showing their work by mid-August to determine install logistics. All exhibits must be ready for viewing by September 13.
September 28 we will be doing an art crawl in the afternoon with all artists expected to be in attendance at their exhibition location. The public will be chartered around by CHAD Transit so that they can take in all the exhibitions in one afternoon. 

Pictou County artists are invited to apply by June 21 with the following information as attachments in an email to Carissa@creativepictoucounty.com with the subject “Exhibition Pop Up”:

  • Bio
  • CV (if applicable – we welcome applications from emerging artists)
  • Images of finished work
  • Applicable links to work or past exhibitions 
  • Description of the body of work you wish to exhibit 
  • Installation requirements and artwork dimensions – this will help us determine what kind of location is needed to show your work. 2D works must be framed, 3D works must consider how they will be displayed and what is required (plinths must be provided by artist)

Free Public Art Workshop for Culture Days
Workshop dates: Three hour workshops between September 22 – October 6

As part of the Artist Development Project, funded by the department of Community, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, Creative Pictou County is seeking workshop facilitators to teach free public art workshops during Culture Days. 

Artists who teach all mediums, from visual arts, writing, performing arts and music are invited to submit a proposal for a three hour workshop. Facilitators will receive an honorarium of $400 with a further $200 to go towards purchasing materials for workshop participants. 

Workshops will take place in a variety of spaces across Pictou County. This opportunity is only open to Pictou County residents. Once artists are selected, they will be assigned a venue, and working with Creative Pictou County staff, determine a date and time. 

Pictou County artists are invited to apply by June 21 with the following information as attachments in an email to Carissa@creativepictoucounty.com with the subject “Workshop Facilitator”:

  • Examples of previous workshops
  • Applicable links to your work or past workshops
  • Lesson plan
  • Materials and space requirements 
  • Minimum and maximum number of participants for your workshop

Culture Days supports a Canada-wide network of arts, culture, and heritage organizers to facilitate free public events in their communities every year during the Culture Days celebrations.
