Creative Pictou County is thrilled to announce that we have partnered with Coastal NS/Destination Eastern and Northern Shore (DEANS) to give an Emerging Artist Award at the 2025 Buoy Awards to a local artist.
The Emerging Artist award will celebrate a talented artist in the early stages of their career who shows exceptional promise in their field.
The DEANS Buoy Awards celebrate tourism excellence found on the northern and eastern shores of the province. Tourism and the arts and culture sector go hand in hand, encouraging visitors to explore the county and making it an exciting place to live by promoting and celebrating artists.
Nominators must complete an official nomination with the following:
- A nomination letter (no more than 500 words) outlining how the nominee has demonstrated artistic achievement in Pictou County or elsewhere.
- Pertinent links to artists website, articles related to presentation of the nominees artistic practice.
- If self-nominating, the artist must provide up to three letters of support.
Nominations can be made by residents of Pictou County or the artist themselves.
Selection Process
Nominees are assessed and a recipient is selected by a jury comprised of Creative Pictou County staff, board members and a community member.
The jury will evaluate based on the following criteria:
- How have the demonstrated artistic merit
- Do they have a vision for the future in relation to their practice
- How does this award have the potential to advance their artistic practice
The jury is not able to nominate themselves or other candidates.

Everyone will be notified by March 25th, the awards ceremony is April 10 at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
