Fleeting

‘Fleeting…’ presents a still life photograph of dead flowers, housed in a hand-built frame constructed around a salvaged fragment of broken glass. Both the subject and the materials speak to states of transition — The dried floral arrangement captures a moment beyond what we would normally appreciate, while the irregular frame celebrates the natural contours of a material that would otherwise be thrown away.
Rather than masking imperfections, this work allows it to shape the final form. Each frame is unique, determined by the shape of the broken glass rather than imposed design. This approach reflects an interest in working with what remains — materially and emotionally — and in resisting the urge to restore, correct, or discard.
Together, the image and its enclosure invite reflection on impermanence, cycles of care, deterioration, and transformation. It questions our tendency to discard what no longer serves a clear function, and proposes an alternate approach: to observe, to hold, to repurpose.
Jamie Kronick inhabits two artistic identities — one as a fine art and commercial photographer, where his work is found in the City of Ottawa Permanent Collection, and has worked for Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP), Rolling Stone Magazine, Macleans Magazine, Canadian Geographic, to name a few.
He is also an accomplished studio and touring drummer, who has supported some of Canada’s most notable songwriters, such as Noah Reid, Jenn Grant, and Ben Caplan, performing in over 30 countries.
