Harrison’s Little Shop of Horrors

Harrison Evely is a young artist based out of Sylvester, Nova Scotia. At only nine years old, Harrison has developed a unique style of art that combines oil and acrylic paints, markers, and clay to create his interpretation of horror based portraiture.

Harrison began drawing when he was three years old. Like most children he enjoyed making drawings. A famous YouTube channel, called ArtHub, became his introduction to creating art in a step-by-step process. For fun, he and his Dad would create many pictures in his formative years.

As time went on, Harrison’s abilities quickly developed. By the time he was in grade one, his drawings began to show significant potential and his interest in art grew deeper.

One of Harrison’s favourite artist’s is the beloved Maud Lewis. He began recreating her famous works and the outcome of his efforts were very positive. His teachers and peers all loved his Maud Lewis recreations but it was his desire to create portraits of his favourite horror characters.

Harrison’s style is focused on facial details, shading and expression. By using methods that he has taught himself by applying heavy ink or paint and smudging with his fingers, he can create great depth with this technique. He also likes to use clay to bring a viewer’s attention to particular components of his work.

This series is Inspired by his Dad’s love of horror literature, specifically, Stephen King. Harrison’s Little Shop of Horrors is a celebration of pop culture icons in the horror genre.

This exhibition is on until July 18, 2026 with an opening reception taking place on May 28 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
